While birding Cape May, New Jersey this past May, Mark and I were fortunate to see several Ospreys enjoying their lunches. The first seven photos were taken near Reed’s Beach in Cape May Courthouse and the last three were taken at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), also known as Brigantine NWR.

Walk through a small New England Woodland
This morning, Mark and I took a walk through the Marblehead Neck Wildlife Sanctuary looking for early spring migrants. While the birding was slow, we did enjoy seeing spring wildflowers - some of which were in peak bloom:
Long Beech Fern (Phegopteris connectilis). Just unfurling.
Wood Anemone (Anemone quinquefolia) Also known as Wind Flower.
Periwinkle (Vinca minor). Also known as Myrtle.
Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum). Also called Dogtooth Violet.
Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus).
Fiddleheads
Long Beech Fern (Phegopteris connectilis). Just unfurling.

Ode to Turkey Vultures
Vultures soaring overhead eagerly searching for anything dead.
One spies a road kill on the grass turns and swoops and lands real fast.
It starts to peck and stuff it spews.
I watch in amazement while thinking - eeewww!
